Vultr positions itself as a top-tier cloud hosting provider, offering unmatched SSD speeds globally. It focuses on blending reliability with high efficiency, utilizing the latest Intel processors and solid-state drives, paired with a user-friendly control panel.
I have over 60 cloud computes with them and in over 3 years had one day of disruptions due to network issues. Their support have been fine and never had an issue reaching out to someone who knows what I want and does it professionally. All VM's with them are absolutely critical being VoIP and happy with their services. We would know very quickly if there were issues, VoIP doesn't like network issues, I/O lag or anything else that causes voice to degrade.
Highly recommend them and never had any strange billing issues.
I don't understand the negative reviews. This is the reason I thought to write the truth about Vultr.
I have tried different VPS from Inmotionhosting, hostingsource, ovh, VPSGet, amazon ec2, upcloud and vultr. This was also the timeline of my use. IMH was first and Vultr is current one. I was with UpCloud with literally about a week. :-) So you can imagine how bad they can be. I stayed with VPSGet just for 2 - 3 months I think. Rest all I stayed at least a year or more.
Out of all these hosting providers, if I rank them for VPS performance, then it comes like this, 1) Vultr, 2) Amazon EC2, 3) HostingSource
If I rank on customer service and support, 1) Vultr, 2) HostingSource and there is no third place unfortunately because remaining are equally bad with some worse than others. Upcloud was worst them all. HostingSource had fully managed VPS with 24/7 chat support. Which I enjoyed very much. But Vultr has ticketing system, which I was not too sure about in terms of quality of service and timeliness. But I must tell that they are damn quick in responding to my queries and I had quite a few tickets for all sorts of things I wanted to know. Just today I asked them how to get additional IP and got response in 10min with URL to follow for that. Happy to see that it is just $2/ip. Which is plus. :-)
If I rank on value for money, 1) Vultr, 2) HostingSource, 3) tie between OVH and InMotionHosting
If I rank overall. I mean if I want to get new VPS then I will go like this. If 1 not available I will go to 2 and if 1 and 2 not available I will go to 3. 1) Vultr, 2) HostingSource, 3) InMotionHosting.
If I rank overall WORST VPS providers to my experience, that I will never consider again, 1) UpCloud, 2) VPSGet (There is no 3rd as rest were ok. Amazon EC2 being most expensive of all without any reasons).
If I rank security point of view, for some reasons only time my website got hacked was when I was with InMotionHosting. I don't blame them as this was new to me with lot of vulnerabilities in code. I think all hosting providers they have security features more or less. I only used proper firewall with Amazon EC2 and then Vultr though. But never had any issues even with rest of the providers otherwise so difficult to judge.
When I joined Vultr they had free Snapshots and I was like, seriously? How can that be the case where Amazon just kept charging like crazy for it. Then last month I new from Vultr notification that these free snapshots were costing them a lot of storage and users just leaving very old snapshots stored, basicallly I think abusing free service, which is expected. :-) Human is like that afterall. Look at the pathetic state of this planet. They now removed that free snapshot service and made it quite reasonably. To me that didn't affect much because I have my robust server / DB system that helps me literally hourly backups, so never needed the snapshots anyway. I think one also need to be reasonable and see two sides of things.
I hope Vultr doesn't change their soul and keep supporting and helping their customers the way they are doing. If so, I have no reason to leave Vultr as far as it goes.
they rip you off and as all comments say they block you for no reason and steal your money, please go to digital ocean prices are almost as vultr but they are better at everithing, dont give your money to this monkeys
Bad service bad support scam scam scam they will steal your money and block your account for no reason after sending your identity and additional informations scam scam scam stay away from vultr stay safe
Absolutely terrible hosting platform, borderline scammers, stay away at all costs!
Vultr is absolutely the worst cloud hosting platform I have ever used. The customer service is very hardworking in block your account but extremely lazy to review your requests. They *WILL* closely monitor the applications that you run and then kill your service and block your account on every excuses that they can find, so that they can seize the balance you already deposited into the account. Your data and application is not safe with them, as their admin watches everything running on your server and trying hard to find a reason to block you. Your application is therefore at risk and unreliable. Once they starts to send you verification requests (which requires your government ID), good luck arguing with them. They will just block you and tell you they will not review your case.
TLDR: borderline scammers, stay away from them at all costs!
I've been using Vultr for two years now and deployed many instances. They are fast, reliable, and cheap. Seems like they do regular network maintenance but I've only had it affect my VMs one time. I've reached out to support many times and they are always very helpful and nice.
They continually update their product offerings and make improvements all the time. Scaling was a little rough when I first started because they didn't have as much capacity, but I have not had that issue in quite a while since they have added way more capacity.
They block port 25 by default so people don't burn their IPs, and they do require a deposit to start but I have no issue with this because I have yet to get a problematic IP. If you've been with them for a while and you have a use case for the port, they will approve it if you ask. They do all of this to prevent abuse which plagues any hosting provider. Before all of these people freak out about it in the reviews, they should consider the reasoning for it.
In terms of the number of bad reviews on here, consider that most people upset will take the time to leave their thoughts somewhere, while the grand majority of satisfied people who use it every day don't even think about it.
If you're uncertain, it's only $5 to test it out. When choosing a long term hosting provider for your applications, that is not much to put down.
This must be a paid review or a staff member of Vultr as you can see this person has wrote a review about vultr blocking port 25 with 5 star ratings and trying to be reasoning . literally answered my query when he could have directly added a reply to my review!
Or he could have just mentioned his experience with vultr
The other thing is that he has added the response in the same day (I gave them 1 star and they have added a 5 star review and the topic is about port 25 lol +10 likes just for his review while other users don't have any like, strange - maybe your colleagues up voted lol) (moved from digital occean?) Vultr and digital ocean have similar dashboard there could be a link between them I am not sure so I am not going to mention anything about on that.(As I haven't use digital ocean before)
>>Vultr -They are fast - agree ,reliable - maybe and cheap - yes of course! A++
(But features and customer support is a joke - I WOULDn't recommend it for any wordpress/joomla/magento/opencart/whmcs/clientexec/abantecart/SugarCRM or any other software that uses phpmail/sendmail/smtp etc or basically a contact form or a comment box)
Who wants to pay $65/month for SMTP relay for a third-party company just to send few personal emails ?
-they respond fast to tickets but in an unhelpful rude manner(even for a new customer), Leaseweb has so much better friendly polite customer support when comparing, their features are so high ,When I asked do you block port 25 by default? they said NO, it's up to you, you could block port 25 if you would like to but We don't block port 25 here (Also one of their representatives told me that their engineers said if someone blocks port 25 you can't send emails so that's bad) -I am not affiliated with leaseweb though )
Try vultr hosting only if you don't want to send reply emails to your incoming emails (you can't send order confirmation emails to your customers if you use WordPress/Woocommerce or any other ecommerce software (Port 25 is blocked permanently on all new accounts, they have mentioned that they unblock on special request (but they are lying after all they don't know how to welcome new customers -very rude) Don't take my word check other reviews on forums - You will be able to unblock port 25 if you are a reputable ISP or something
I personally don't like EIG group companies but I would give them A+++++ when it comes to customer support (EIG group companies are gods when it comes to customer service , only issue is their prices are too expensive) learn from them
>>They do all of this to prevent abuse which plagues any hosting provider Blocking legitimate customers are not the way to address such spam issues(there are lots of spam filtering technologies they could use) If you don't know again you could learn it from EIG group's companies or ask leaseweb or phoenix how do they handle it
if all hosting providers block port 25 to prevent abuse how would you even register on hostadvice.com/ reset your password etc , get notifications about your account on hostadvice? Port 25 is the original standard SMTP port.(you block it you should give your customers alternative solutions or just mention that you block port 25 by default before we pay you)
>>>In terms of the number of bad reviews on here, consider that most people upset will take the time to leave their thoughts somewhere, while the grand majority of satisfied people who use it every day don't even think about it.
Oh I see that's why vultr have 4.4/10 and other hosting companies have around 8/10 or 9.8/10 Lol
>>while the grand majority of satisfied people who use it every day don't even think about it. So in which group do you belong to huh? majority of satisfied people? and you still take time to write a review hahaha....
1. Paid Review or Vultr Staff No. Vultr did not pay me for this and I do not work there.
2. Answering your query I was searching for "vultr instance security review" since I had an issue with their system flagging one of my VMs for running something that their security systems detected - nothing illegal or against their terms, but they had contacted me about it. This page was the third result so I decided to see what everybody was bitching about. You weren't the only one talking about port 25. I had first hand experience dealing that that block on my account.
3. Same day Coincidence. There's new reviews every week on here.
4. Customer Service a "joke" I've contacted them many times, and never had an issue. I reported that in my review. If you had a bad experience, you can leave that in your own review. My review is my experience, yours is your experience. That's why reviews exist.
5. "Blocking legitimate customers" If you're legitimate, open a ticket and talk to them.
6. "In terms of bad reviews" I left my 2 cents. I see that on the top of the hosting list on this site, ChemiCloud is listed. And rightfully so, they take the cake for the best hosting experience I've ever had. I'll admit that Vultr customer service can't touch CC, but I have yet to see any host get close to them.
Cheap VPS Cheap service ,Stay away from vultr very bad customer support and service
Really disappointed!! Stay away from vultr at any cost. Especially if you are running an ecommerce website , you can't send order notification to your customers. They block port 25 by default and they won't unblock it.
They take your money and don't provide the service. Customer support is really bad (I can confirm that they don't really read your questions, instead a bot replies with some un relevant answers)
Reply from Billing customer support minimum 48 hours, not friendly at all, not willing to help. I tried to make payment but non of my credit card was not accepted by vultr ( 3 different credit cards from different BANKS!!!), they requested photo of my ID and credit card last 4 digits , i provide all information but after 2 days no answer, i sent reminder, and they answered to me that now they need photo of myself with credit card, which before they didn't request, for me is not problem to send another photo, but wait for answer 48 hours is not normal at all, and nobody say sorry to me for waiting so long time and why they are requesting every time different infomration.. after that i sent official email to their main customer service and explained all situation and negative experience, it was almost 7 days ago.. still no answer. VULTR not interested in their customers at all, i need to push them and remind them to answer to me every time. Thank you for your attention, Andrew
The support is really bad, the answers are like just copy past, robots, I Believe they DON'T Read your issue!! And at the end they will pushe you ti Upgrade! It was really a bad experience, I've hear that Digitalocean is a bit expansive but the get your back in support!!!
Agree with you Hany ~ Vultr is fast but terrible features and customer support (and that's why they have 4.4/10
Faster network and servers? - Yes A++ on that (this is the only thing that I love about them) Security - Should be great so A++ Basic Email Features - Hell no , try a different provider Friendly and professional customer support - Don't even think about it - Terrible!!! They just don't know how to welcome and keep the customer (it doesn't matter how much the customer pays you monthly whether it's $40/month or $640/month you should treat your customers equally because you never know what the customer is about to purchase in next minute, it could have been a dedicated cloud or baremetal server)
Do they read your tickets properly ? - No , they just want to reply you fast and not to help you.
I was new to vultr and I was checking their features before I recommend my friend who runs a popular hosting company in North Carolina, USA to move to vultr (He has over 5,000 shared hosting clients) So he would have purchased several $$$/mo dedicated servers from you vultr!
