I absolutely LOVE what flywheel is doing. Wordpress management has always been a nightmare, especially when you are hosting multiple Wordpress sites. Flywheel makes it so easy.
For a premium wordpress managed host, their chat support is very slow. Usually i have received a response within 10 minutes. But today being july 4th, its been very long and I still haven’t received a response.
I've been using flywheel for a couple years now. They are have unmatched service, support and sales! They continue to grow and the service continues to get even better (if that's possible). If you have a question, they are on top of it, every single time! I can't say enough good things about Flywheel!
Great design but took a client's site down - did not remedy
I have scored accurately based on my experience. I want to like this service, the features are great and user friendly however the service is not reliable.
A reasonable alternative to WP Engine, but with some issues
I moved about 50 client sites from WP Engine to Flywheel in 2018. In general, they are quite good, up-and-coming competition. Their support techs are very good, on par with WP Engine. But they do have some problems - in my experience support tickets can take anywhere from a few minutes to over 16 hours to get a response. That's really unacceptable especially for a bulk plan. There is no 24/7 support chat as promised when I signed up, though they say they plan to have that in place soon. Their support tickets don't show the conversation thread making it difficult to follow when there are a few exchanges. It's quite user-friendly for designers, but not developers: there is no phpMyAdmin and no access to wp-config.php. There's no way to clear the Flywheel cache from inside the WP dashboard as you can with WP Engine, which is irritating to clients. The biggest problem I've found is really the inconsistent support ticket times.
Thanks for the heads-up! I've been eyeing Flywheel for a long time, and saddened now by some of these limitations. I was surprised and concerned about the lack of some utilities you mentioned: db admin, access to wp-config, and inability to clear the cache. I wrote to them to verify this was accurate, because those are pretty much deal-breakers. Below is their response, and then my comments:

The wp-config file is locked down, but our support engineers can make edits for you as needed. 3. 1. It's not as full-featured as phpmyadmin, but it looks similar to what I get at Cloudways, and at least it lets you import, export, and do the most common functions. I could live with that.
2. I don't like not being able to access wp-config myself. :( Boo hiss.
3. I hate it when they answer a question you didn't ask and pretend that solves your issue. So there really is no way to flush the cache within WordPress, which is dumbfounding and unheard of.
